Works at: University of Delaware Research in the South Pacific: We will be using tiny electrode probes to measure the chemistry and temperature of the vent fluids as they emerge. This will help us describe the environment in which animals live. This technique has the advantage of not having to bring samples up to the surface, by which time some of the chemical properties of the water will have changed. Bio snippet: I did a degree in Environmental Science and Ecology in Oxford, U.K., and also my PhD there. I have always enjoyed science and working in the lab, and was working as a technician when I met my PhD advisor, Vic Truesdale, in Oxford. He inspired me a lot and I decided to study with him to get into Oceanography, and haven't looked back!
